All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) Fiber Optic Cable

All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) fiber optic cable is aerially installed fiber optic cable that has no metallic elements in its construction. In an ADSS cable, optical fibers are contained in an all-dielectric core and sheath. Justifying to its name, an ADSS cable does not contain any metallic components or strength members, that makes it suitable to install near electrical cables.

ADSS cables are installed aerially usually along high voltage power lines. Separate poles are not required to install for ADSS cables. ADSS cables are designed to meet the physical and environmental requirements of the optical fibers at all installation conditions, operating temperatures, and environmental loading expected for outside plant optical fiber cable.

ADSS cables are intended for aerial applications, usually traversing long spans in the ranges of a few hundred meters. ADSS spans of 100 meters, 200 meters and 300 meters are common, while longer spans such as 500 meters and above are rarely demanded by installation companies. As demanded by the actual deployment terrain, ADSS spans may vary. ADSS is popular with the power utility industry. They are also utilized in the communications plant of most telephone companies.
