Fiber optic closure can be made of a metallic body and non-metallic body. Also, it could be a combination of metallic and non-metallic elements. In bot h cases, the manufacturer of fiber optic closure shall take precaution to ensure guaranteed life time to perform on the field. The environmental performance depends on factors such as the protective and stabilization materials used in the material to manufacture closure.
Closure manufacturer shall ensure that all the metals used in the closure is resistant and protected against corrosion and various forms of localized corrosion such as stress corrosion, cracking, pitting, etc. Steel is resistant to corrosion. Galvanization can also help prevent corrosion.

The metallic closure material shall be selected to help minimize the risk of inducing significant galvanic corrosion effects when in contact with other metals likely to be present in the closure’s environment.
Any additional external wraps or coatings if used in the closures shall be corrosion resistant and shall be protected from environmental stresses.
Non-metallic materials shall be resistant to solvents and stress cracking, and shall be selected to minimize creep.
All non-metallic materials shall be compatible with chemicals and other materials to which they might be exposed in normal applications and in normal concentrations and amounts.
